Second Encounter: Deluxe Edition is a free game utility from an indie developer who goes by tankermottind. It is a game mod for the classic first-person action shooter, Wolfenstein 3D. It ports over a collection of maps that were never released for its PC version.

Compared to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which is a more modern release, Second Encounter: Deluxe Edition was made for the classic third installment in the series, directly from the source port. Thus, it retains the old-school pixel graphics and bright, colorful sprites for that charming retro vibe that both new and long-time fans love.

Old classic, new maps

Wolfenstein 3D is the third installment in the Wolfenstein series and was the first Wolfenstein game that developer id Software ever worked on. It's essentially the progenitor for what the now-prolific dev released next, namely the Doom, Quake, and Rage games. Second Encounter: Deluxe Edition is a mod made for its LZWolf source port that adds 30 never-before-seen maps to the PC version.

Wolfenstein 3D also had a Mac version that included 30 maps, collectively known as Second Encounter, as well as new features and weapons. This deluxe edition basically combines all maps, guns, and features from the PC, Mac, and LZWolf source port version into a single unified package to offer what many would consider the most definitive experience for this classic and much-loved release.

If that wasn't enough, you also get converted maps from the 60 levels on PC known as Third Encounter. If you're done with all that, you can then play around with the built-in map creator with WDC definitions to create custom levels of your own. Before diving in, just note that this mod is only compatible with the LZWolf port of Wolfenstein 3D.

So many encounters

Wolfenstein 3D is one of the most influential classic first-person shooter games ever made. If you've not played it yet, go install the LZWolf port and have at it. Once you've finished that, add the Second Encounter: Deluxe Edition mod for even more levels, guns, and fun mayhem. This one is an easy recommendation, and you should just play it now.
